For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…
God has made everything suitable for its time, put a sense of past and future in the minds of humanity…
I know that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; God has done this, so that all should stand in awe before the Holy One. That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already is; and God seeks out what has gone by. (from Ecclesiastes 3)
Whatever God does endures forever. Whatever God breathes into being; whatever Christ’s life, death, and resurrection make possible; whatever the Holy Spirit surrounds and enlivens and brings to bear … it all lasts.
Our staff team has often said of ministry, “The call is the call. And sometimes it’s weird.” Who can know what will come, where we’ll go, or when or with whom or even how we’ll be needed to teach, love, lead, challenge, and grow. What we DO know, with absolute confidence, is that God continues to call EACH of us – not just professional ‘pastors’ – into lives of ministry, compassion, witness, and hope.
Throughout July, we will prepare our Lead Pastor, Rev Mark Briley and his family, for their move to Columbia Missouri, where he will share his countless gifts and passions with Broadway Christian Church. (Read Mark’s pastoral letter.)
We will have a Celebration Evening on Saturday July 27, 6:00 – 8:00pm
in the Family Life Center.
Mark’s last day with us will be Sunday July 28. Worship (at both hours)
on the 28th will conclude with a sending and blessing.
Between now and then, we invite EVERYONE in the congregation to :
: for Mark, Carrie, Morgan, Dane, and Hayes; for the staff, leaders, and congregation at Broadway Christian Church; for the staff, leaders, and congregation at Harvard Avenue Christian Church.
: To celebrate that we continue to share ministry wherever we are, Harvard Avenue will make a contribution to Bethany Fellows. Mark serves on the Lead Team, nurturing a strong and healthy identity among newly ordained, young pastors in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as they move from seminary to sustained congregational ministry. Our collected gifts (payable to HACC, by July 25) will be given as a whole to support this vital work, so much a part of Mark’s heart for the church and its people.
: Take the time to write a note to Mark. Everyone of every age, place, and stage in the church: Share a memory, offer advice, draw a picture, say thank you. Please bring your note to the church office no later than Thursday July 25; these gifts will be given to Mark at the Celebration Evening.
God calls us, and holds us, and we respond: with thanksgiving, with prayer, with confidence, with faith.
For all that has been – Thanks! For all that shall be – Yes! (Dag Hammarskjold)
