March 13 2020
Beloved of Harvard Avenue,
Our greatest call as people of faith, as those who follow the ways of Christ, is to love. To love God, to love one another, fully and completely, with all that we are.
Our leadership continues to consider how we might best respond to concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19). Our response is built upon the guidance and best practices of our partners in the local faith community, the general and regional church, as well as the Mayor’s Office, the Tulsa Health Department, Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization.
As a Christian community, we seek to care for one another, particularly those who are most vulnerable, we are taking recommended measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 until health authorities suggest that our community can engage in pre-coronavirus patterns.
We have made the very difficult decision to suspend Sunday worship services, and all group gatherings at the church facility, beginning Sunday March 15.
This comes with heartbreak – but also with imagination.
Remember that WE ARE STILL THE CHURCH!
Look for all the ways we will
– worship God together with sermons, music, bible studies, blog posts, children and family resources, Worship and Wonder stories;
– care deeply for each other, including in some new ways;
– learn and pray together, through online meeting platforms and instructions for Sunday School classes, Bible studies, and prayer groups; and
– serve the needs of the wider community, with generosity and grace.
Even as we practice responsible physical distancing, we remain deeply spiritually connected. You will hear more from us – soon and often – about all the many ways we will continue to be the church.
The church office will remain open, and our ministry will continue. Your pastors remain available to you. The finance office will receive tithes and offerings by mail or in person. The Sanctuary will remain open during office hours for prayer and reflection.
We seek to be a calming presence in turbulent times. We have been called to faithfulness, to love God and to love one another. When we come to the other side of this ever-flowing stream, imagine what we will see! A 21st century church, rooted in God’s goodness, flourishing with heartfelt creativity and faith-filled compassion. A church that truly knows what it means to be loved, believe, and become.
With great faith,
The Pastors, Staff, and Leadership Team of Harvard Avenue Christian Church
