Opening the Lent Wednesday evening series with the tradition of Ash Wednesday liturgy, and the stories of faith from members of Harvard Ave.
Marking the beginning of the season of Lent, worship on Ash Wednesday invites us to remember our Creator, the source of all life, and the promise we have in life everlasting. “Remember you came from the dust, and to dust you will return.” We mark this promise with the sign of the cross, in ash and oil, pressed onto our foreheads.
THIS year, Ash Wednesday also marks the start of our Wednesday night Lent series, called ‘Our Story’. Each week, a member of the pastoral/program staff invites members of the Harvard Avenue community to share their own stories of faith, around the themes of hope, love, mercy, justice, kindness, and grace. Also each week, the song ‘My Story’ (Big Daddy Weave) will be offered, in a different arrangement, voice and presentation.
Excerpted here is the ‘message’ in conversation (which included special music), and the presentation of the ‘My Story’ theme song.
conversation: Courtney Richards, Connections Pastor; Clayton & Larry Smith; Don & Nancy Pittman
special music: Isaac & Sarah Grace Herbert, ‘At the Foot of the Cross’
